parenting tips from Michael and Mari

Kentucky Ken
This is a journal of Kenneth Akio Werneburg. Recorded by parents with a website, a camera, and no sense of shame, it chronicles the adventures of a Canadian-Japanese boy growing up in Tokyo.

The name of the website was inspired by our downstairs neighbour. She mis-heard the boy's name as "Kentucky Ken". Somehow.

patience is a virtue

It's difficult to stay patient with a small child. Especially a two year old.

But I've found a technique that I'd like to pass on. It probably works better if you're in your mid-late thirties rather than your twenties, but it goes something like this.

"You're no longer living for yourself. You're a has-been, it's your child's turn, just lump it."

It's actually surprisingly relieving once you've let yourself off the hook. There's no need for you to do anything or get rest or feel rewarded or accomplish anything. Nope, it's all about the child now so just roll with it.
